BP Indonesia stated that Tangguh Train 2 LNG has returned to normal operations. Previously, for several days BP acknowledged that there had been a shutdown of train 2. Nader Zaki, BP Regional President of Asia Pacific, said that the BP team had successfully re-operated train 2, which died since 10 May 2021.
"We can inform you that Train 2 Tangguh LNG has returned to production on Saturday, May 22, 2021 after experiencing a shutdown on May 10," said Nader on Monday.
Nader also emphasized that with the re-operation of Train 2, all Tangguh LNG refineries have now returned to normal production.
In the first quarter of 2021, Tangguh LNG production has reached 30 cargoes. This year, the government targets Tangguh to produce 200.74 LNG cargoes.
The Tangguh LNG plant is one of the largest LNG facilities in Indonesia, whose LNG production is mostly for export. BP is currently building Tangguh Train 3, whose LNG production will be mostly for domestic needs. BP has entered into a contract with PLN to fulfill LNG needs for the Java I Steam Gas Power Plant (PLTGU).
Tangguh train-3 is a national strategic project which, when it is onstream, will provide a significant additional national oil and gas production. This project will produce 3,000 bael per day of oil and 700 million cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas.
The Tangguh project will also add two offshore platforms, 13 new production wells, a new LNG loading dock and other supporting infrastructure.
However, there are concerns that Tangguh Train 3 will again be delayed. The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) previously revised the completion target to 2022 from the previous year 2021.
Due to the pandemic, the cost of working on the Tangguh Train-3 project has also increased. In SKK Migas data, the initial estimate for the construction of train 3 by BP Berau Ltd will cost an investment of US $ 8.9 billion. However, after the evaluation, it turned out that there was an estimated US $ 750 million in bankruptcy.
