Rolls-Royce has a long-standing relationship with Indonesia of more than 50 years. We are committed to investing in, and supporting local communities in Indonesia with educational, humanitarian and environmental programmes.

Research and development

Together with the Newton Fund and British Council Indonesia, Rolls-Royce signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education to establish an International Learning Experience Programme, designed specifically for leaders from Indonesian universities. The programme provides insights on how to build on existing scientific and technological achievements in order to become world class universities.

Skills, training and community investment

To drive interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects from a young age, we have partnered with local education group PT Kuark Indonesia on a STEM Awareness Programme to make learning science and technology fun.

We have also supported a number of post-disaster recovery projects such as building health clinics and rebuilding schools in several disaster-affected areas, as well as community building projects to provide electricity and clean water to the Tanjung Batu primary school in East Kalimantan.

Civil Aerospace

We are Indonesia’s largest aero-engine supplier for widebody aircraft, powering and servicing Garuda Indonesia’s entire A330 fleet of 24 aircraft, all powered by the Trent 700. Most recently, Garuda selected the Trent 7000 to power their new fleet of 14 Airbus A330neo aircraft.

Lion Air, Indonesia’s largest airline, took delivery of its first Trent 700 powered A330 in November 2015 and now operates three A330 aircraft. We also support PT Dirgantara, Indonesia’s maintenance, repair and overhaul facility PT Nusantara Turbin & Propulsi where many of our aero-engine types active in Indonesia and Asia are maintained.

Defence Aerospace

The Indonesian Air Force is an important Rolls-Royce customer. Its various aircraft fleets are powered by Rolls-Royce engines, including the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce T56 turboprops, Hawk advanced jet trainers powered by Adour engines and Grob primary trainer aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce M250 turboprops. Several hundred Rolls-Royce gas turbines also power Indonesia’s Army, Navy and National Police helicopters, such as NBO 105 and Enstrom 480.

Power Systems

MTU diesel and gas engines provide power for mobile platforms and stationary installations across Indonesia. Over 3,700 MTU engines power buildings, industrial plants, and mining sites and also move ships, mining trucks, military vehicles and locomotives. These are supported by MTU’s network of offices, workshop and service partner in Jakarta, Balikpapan, Makassar, Palembang, Sangatta and Surabaya.

Bergen gas engines have been supplying electricity to Indonesia from three power plants in Batam, Teluk Lembu (Riau) and Payo Selincah (Jambi), generating a total capacity of 146 MW.
