COVID-19 triggers a global surge in private jets bookings

Getting on board a major airline plane has now become impossible for the majority of the population world-wide. However a report published by the Sunday time as shown that more than 1300 private jet flights were booked since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in UK and lockdown measures were put in place world-wide.

Therefor the governments have asked people to stay home and to avoid any non-essential travel, including moving to any holiday spot, in order to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Several flights were booked from European hotspots such as Italy, France or Germany to United Kingdom and also in less controlled countries in Asia.

The private jets market is composed of thousands of SME companies able to fulfil any need to travel to any destination world-wide, and Private-jet companies could receive billions of dollars in loans, aid and tax relief from the federal government in USA, as part of the $2 trillion coronavirus aid package.

Booking a flight to any destination, would now requires a minimum of 48 hours advance notice, in order to get the flight plan to be approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The current prices are from USD 2500 to USD10000 per hour for small and medium size private jets with 4 to 14 seats included.

Some destination remains not accessible due to their classification in zone 4 of COVID-19 pandemic area such as China, Italy, France and now USA. Local protection measures were implemented to control the borders.

It is important to point out here that any pilot grounded for three months or more, will have to go thru a training process before flying any commercial flights again, meaning that all major airline companies may not be able to operate any commercial flights before September 2020.
